Many fans also take issue with the way Carol Danvers is written these days. While this can make a character appear more powerful and in control, in this case, it just takes away the tension.Ĭaptain Marvel is portrayed in such a way that she is always obviously the one that is going to win, making any fight without any stakes. She has no issue defeating the bad guys, to the point that during one scene she defeats an entire group of enemy aliens with her arms restrained.

This is often illustrated through many fights with the antagonist, to whom they lose until with much struggle they ultimately win.Īlthough the idea behind her introduction to the MCU was that she is a character that is more powerful than any superheroes we met thus far which is not a problem on its own, but she should have certain struggles as a part of her story.

Most superheroes start with something holding them back and then after resolving the issue they realize their full potential.
#BRIE LARSON REPLACED MOVIE#
Even the final battle between her and her mentor, Jude Law holds no value because her attitude towards the main question the movie sets up is the same.īesides the moral conflict, the movie does not have any tension. She starts the movie driven by emotion, trying to succeed in a male-dominated profession, often acting on impulse and ends the movie as such. The center theme of the movie is whether the calm and collected mind can beat someone who gives in to their emotions. Fans also sympathize with many of the main characters because they either followed them through a character arc or watched them question their moral views and overcome certain obstacles.Ĭaptain Marvel does not overcome anything throughout her movie and she does not question her moralities. She is a very new addition to an elaborate storyline that has been built up for more than a decade.Īll the other characters have been fleshed out until this point and it is very clear what their motivations and goals are. With a darker, deeper story than many give it credit for, a Larson-led movie - perhaps helmed by Shang-Chi director and frequent Larson collaborator Destin Daniel Cretton - could give Metroid the spotlight it deserves. Why are fans wrong? Why do people hate Captain Marvel?Īt first glance, a lot of fans seem to hate Captain Marvel just because. Metroid's stock has fallen with its years in the wilderness, and even as Dread reminds everyone how it became so iconic in the first place, it still feels doomed to be overlooked as a relic of the past. Casting Larson is proof that yes, this is a real movie with real people really being made by a real studio.
#BRIE LARSON REPLACED SERIES#
Larson is a huge fan of the series and is bought into Samus as a character. Ronan, as much as I enjoy her work, would be a terrible choice however, because there is so much more to Samus than a slim blonde woman what does all them shooty shoots and curls up in a ball. Too often fancasts point to the most obvious person based on looks alone, and sure, Larson does fit that. Jennifer Lawrence, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chloe Moretz, Saoirse Ronan, and Kathryn Newton all vaguely look the part, or at least could after a few months of a Samus Aran workout regime. There are other actresses you'd consider, sure. I know she once said not all movies were made with white men in mind, but I still find Brie Larson's contentious position amongst the online community impossibly weird to understand.

It still staggers me how a gorgeous, blonde haired, slim, traditionally gorgeous, geeky, nerdy, gorgeous, video game loving, comic book reading, gorgeous actress managed to find herself on the wrong side of history with the basement dwellers. Related: No Time To Die Is The Perfect Sequel To SpectreI know some of you don't like her. Literally, she would probably bring Metroid and her Switch to the set every single day. Larson, a huge Metroid geek, brings so much more than her acting ability. Mostly, whether a video game movie lands or not comes down to how much it respects video games as a whole, and how much it understands the source material. Video game movies have been getting better, but they remain hit or miss. Larson looks the part, brings her Oscar winner calibre and MCU pedigree with her, and most importantly, she really fucking wants to be Samus.
